500km FUN RUN 6 May 2026 (by Philip O'Neill (admin)) |
Today marked a truly memorable day for our entire school community as we came together for our 500km Whole School Fun Run.
From the very beginning, there was a real sense of excitement and purpose, with the event bringing pupils, staff and even our on-site workmen together in a shared effort.
A special mention to Mr Lyons, whose incredible achievement set the tone for the day. Setting off from the school gates at 8.00am, he completed a remarkable 50km run over the course of five hours. His determination, resilience and commitment were nothing short of inspirational. In a powerful and emotional moment, Mr Lyons was welcomed back to school by a guard of honour formed by pupils, staff and workmen, crossing the finish line alongside his daughters, Sadhbh and Siobhán. It was a fitting tribute to an outstanding effort.
Every class played their part throughout the morning, with pupils walking and running age-appropriate distances along the canal towpath. While our original target was to collectively reach 500km, the enthusiasm and energy of the children meant we far exceeded expectations, accumulating over 1000km, an incredible achievement that reflects the spirit and togetherness of our school community.
In addition to the physical achievement, an incredible amount of money has been raised towards our new 3G pitch. This support from our school community is greatly appreciated and brings us one step closer to making this important project a reality for our pupils.
The day was made even more enjoyable by the beautiful sunshine, creating a perfect setting for such a positive and active event. Smiles, encouragement and a strong sense of pride were evident throughout. To round off a fantastic day, pupils enjoyed a well-earned ice cream, bringing a joyful close to the celebrations.
Overall, it was a brilliant day for everyone involved. Mr Lyons’ inspirational run, combined with the collective effort of our pupils and staff, truly embodied the Spirit of Kingsisland.
