Special Educational Needs
Your child may need special help at some point in their schooling. This may be as a result of physical, learning or behavioural problems.
Our Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) in school is Mrs. O'Hagan She works in close consultation with the principal and all other members of staff.
Where children have special educational needs we make every effort to provide additional support. If we have concerns about a child, the class teacher and the SENCO meet with parents to discuss extra support that can be made available in school.
The parents of children on the Special Educational Needs Register are kept well informed of all developments in the education of their child. We keep detailed records of the progress of all children , and note whether the methods of teaching and techniques for managing them are successful.
We will meet regularly with parents to review progress and to plan the way forward for the pupil. Close working partnerships are essential to ensure our pupils make the best possible progress.
If we think a child needs more help than we can provide within the available school resources, we discuss with parents the possibility of involving other professionals such as the school’s Educational Psychologist, to assess the child’s needs and to provide advice to the school and to the parent(s).
We have a large amount of Special Education Needs resources available in Kingsisland including Reading Recovery Books, Reading Partnership Books, Literacy and Numeracy games and ICT resources.
Our greatest asset however is our experienced and dedicated staff.
Please feel free to talk to any member of staff if you have any concerns at any time regarding the progress of your child.
