TÍR EOGHAIN COUNTY CHAMPIONS

21 March 2025 (by admin)

For the first time in the history of St John’s Primary School, our Primary 7 boys lifted the prestigious Allianz Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain Indoor County Title today, in Mid Ulster Sports Arena Cookstown.

Over these past few years we have had some fantastic teams, who came so close, knocking on the door with 1 final and 2 semi-final appearances.
But today the boys took it one step further and made everyone in school so proud with a display of true grit, skill and determination to emerge as the Primary School County Champions of Tír Eoghain CnmB Tír Eoghain.
The finals brought the 9 section winners from across the whole county of Tyrone. The teams were split in two sections. Kingsisland were drawn in Section 2.
After 3 gruelling encounters against St Mary’s Stewartstown, St Colmcilles’s Carrickmore and St Oliver Plunkett’s Beragh the Kingsisland team qualified for the semi-final.
In a thrilling, hard fought, end to end game against Section 1 winners, St Patrick’s Roan, and with very little to spare, the team made it through to the final where they would face the winners of the other semi-final between Carrickmore and Galbally.
In the final, against a very strong, powerful and skilful Galbally team, the Kingsisland lads fought for each other as if their lives depended on it.
In what proved to be the toughest game of the day, the Kingsisland boys built up an early lead. Despite the best efforts of their opposition, the Kingsisland team put their heads, hands and bodies on the line to defend their goal.
With some superb points and goals in reply, the lads emerged victorious by 4 points as the final whistle blew.
The sheer emotion overwhelmed every pupil present, as they fell to the ground with tears of joy.
Congratulations to Gallbally for a fantastic final and all the participating teams today, for a great tournament and excellent sportsmanship.
Well done to every staff member that has helped these lads develop their GAA skills down through the years.
And congratulations to the coaches of all their local clubs, Doire Treasc Fir an Chnoic Oileán an Ghuail Na Fianna CLG Derrylaughan Kevin Barrys GAC Clonoe O’Rahillys @Killyman St. Marys
Next up for Kingsisland is a tilt at the Boys’ Ulster Championship in Meadowbank Indoor Arena, Magherafelt. We wish the team every success.
But today was for celebrating.
What a win!
One that will go down in the annals of Kingsisland GAA history and live long in the memory for the whole school.
