P4 Communion DVD's P4 pupils are pictured recieving a DVD of their 1st Holy Communion Cermony. The DVD's were made by our departing Primary 7 pupils as part of a digital media ICT project during their final term at Kingsisland. The Primary 7 pupils videoed the special day then edited their combined footage on the iMovie program their Apple Mac computers.

New Gaelic Goalposts Thanks to Aidan O'Hagan we now have a brand new, specialy made set of gaelic goalposts. The posts are easily moved, perfect for different sized games among every class. Aidan, a past pupil of kingsisland and former Tyrone star even took time to be goalkeeper as the pupils lined up to take penalties. Thanks again Aidan for putting a great big smile on the face of every Kingsisland pupil today.

P1 End of Year School Trip 2013 P1 children enjoyed their school trip to Peter Pan's Neverland. Although Peter Pan was nowhere to be seen, apparent several P1 children claimed to have spotted Twinkerbell. The children went to Tannaghmore play park where they had lots of fun, especially on the zip line, (even the adults took their turn!) A super ending to a fantastic year.

Sports Day 2013 The sun shone brightlylast Friday in Kingsisland during our annual fun/sports day. There was some very close races but everyone competed in the true spirit of the day. Overall winner in the boys category was Conrad in P6 and Isobel in P1. see more pics

Dairy Council Visit Today the Primary 5 and 6 pupils were vistied by Laura and Paul from the Dairy Council to talk about having a healthy lifestyle. The pupils learned about the importance of getting a balance between healthy eating and physical activity.

Induction Day for our 18 new P1’s Friday was a very special day as we welcomed our new primary 1 pupils and their parents for a special induction morning. All 18 of our new pupils had a great morning get familiar with their new surroundings in the beautiful sunshine.

1st Holy Communion Well done to all of our Primary 4 boys and girls who celebrated the Sacrament of 1st Holy Communion last Saturday in St Columcille’s Church, Kingsisland. We thank Father Fee for a beautiful ceremony. A special word of thanks must also go to the beautiful chior and to everyone who helped prepare them.

Armagh Rhymers The Armagh Rhymers paid a special visit to school on Friday. Ray, Darragh and Eoin entertained the children with fascinating stories and songs. The primary 6 and 7 pupils then participated in a workshop that culminated in the children performing a show for all pupils.

More new PE Equipment We have been continuing to add to our already extensive array of outdoor equipment. Pupils are pictured with new gaelic footballs, sliothars, hurls, soft balls and bouncy balls. Pupils have full access to all equipment every day and the increase in sporting participation is evident across all classes.

Annaginny Farm Visit Our P2 and 3 children had a very enjoyable visit to Annaginny Farm last week. The pupils had a guided tour of the open farm. Pupils had the chance to pet the animals and took the opportunity to play in the play park before returning to school.

Loughshore Veg Thank you to Loughshore Veg for kindly donating packs of fruit for each child in school last week. We are a healthy eating school and encourage children to eat as much fruit and vegetables as they can. We are extremely grateful for this very kind donation. The children really enjoyed tucking in!!!!!

Good Luck Primary 4's Everyone in school would like to wish good luck to our primary 4 pupils who will celebrate the Sacrament of Communion this Saturday in St Columcille's Church, Kingsisland. The boys and girls have been busy preparing for their big day. The excitement around the school is growing in anticipation for one of the highlights of our school year. We would like to invite evryone in our community back to the school afterwards for some refreshments and wee chat. Roll on Saturday!!!!!!

Thank You Ryan Pupils wanted to say a big thank you to our sports coach Ryan who very kindly presented us with some new footballs this week. Ryan coaches basketball each week in school and is a very popular coach among the pupils. Everyone has been enjoying playing with the new footballs. |

P7 Smoke Busters Primary 7 pupils received their Smoke Buster Packs today. Pupils have been finding out about the dangers of smoking and in particular the implications that smoking has on people's health. Pupils began a series of cross-curricular lessons designed to gain a better insight into the perils of starting smoking.

Well Teddy Clinic P1 children concluded their WAU topic, 'People who help us' by visiting Dungannon South Tyrone Hospital along with their sick teddies. Nurse Heather allowed the children to visit Mickey the Monkey who was badly injured in a car accident. As Mickey suffered a broken arm, the children were allowed to help with putting a cast on his arm. They took an x-ray of Mickey and used other hospital equipment to carry out a routine check-up on their own teddies. The P1 doctors and nurses cared for and bandaged up any sores their teddy had. The children took their poor teddies to Dungannon Park for a teddy bears picnic. |

Thumbs Up on Monday! P1 children visited Dungannon Fire station as part of the 'People who help us' topic. They really enjoyed learning about the work of the Fire Fighters. |

On Yer Bike!!!!!!!!!!! Primary 6 and 7 pupils began their Cycling Proficiency Scheme today. Under the guidance of their teacher, Mrs Campbell, the boys and girls began to learn about the key elements of road safety for cyclists. The scheme will last for the remainder of the week and will conclude with a cycling proficiency assessment for each pupil. See more pics

Naoimh Columcille Champions In a superb display of hurling and camogie the boys and girls successfully defended the Andrew O'Neill Memorial tournament held in Naoimh Columcille's pitch today. Despite the wet and cold conditions the boys and girls showed tremendous skills overcoming Aughamullan, Brocagh, Annaghmore and a gallant Primate Dixon team in the final. Everyone played their part but special mention must go to Conor, Darragh, Conrad, Levon and Sian. There was much celebration as captain Sian held the trophy aloft for the second year in a row. |
Cookery Club Our new Cookery Afterschools Club is off to a flying start, and the first group of children have finished their three week block. They have had a great time making pizzas in Week 1, Cornflake Crunch buns in Week 2 and Chocolate chip cookies in Week 3. Hopefully they have had lots of fun learning some new skills and trying out new tastes and flavours. |

Titanic- Living History Primary 6 & Primary 7 were visited by the Timesteps Living History group and completed a workshop on the Titanic as part of their World Around Us topic. The children learned all about life in 1912 and what it was like to be on board the Titanic as a first, second or third class passenger. The children then were put to the test to build a boat that would float and carry the most marbles. The winning group’s boat carried 113 marbles before sinking. Perhaps a few of the P6 and P7 children could have given Thomas Andrews a few tips when he designed his ‘unsinkable’ ship! |

Easter Egg Hunt The Easter Bunny made a special guest appearance in Kingsisland today. Even though the tasty treats were left in some very hard to find places the children made sure that all eggs were recovered. The Easter Bunny even made an extra special guest appearance at Mrs Quinn's class assembly held in the chapel. A great day was had by all.

Zoo Lab Visit Andy from zoolab visited Kingsisland today. He brought many different animals icluding spiders, snails, snakes, mini beasts, stick insects and crabs. The children were allowed to lift and feel the animals. But not everyone was so keen to get close to the tarantula.

Postman Visits P1 Class Raymond, the school postman kindly visited the primary 1 classroom this week. The primary 1 pupils have been learning about people in our community who help us. Raymond told the pupils all about delivering letters and how important it was for people to send and receive letters. Thanks again Raymond.

Super Performance from Girls in Tyrone Camogie Final !!!!!!!!! Our girls did magnificently well today 21st March 2013 when they reached the Tyrone County Camogie Final. The girls travelled to Omagh Station centre following their victory in the local heat held in Clonoe. The girls qualified from their section defeating St Patrick's PS Castlederg 2-0 and St Patrick's Dungannon 6-0. In the semi-final the girls defeated Gaelscoil Ui Neill 5-0. In a dramatic and captivating final, the girls were desperately unlucky to loose 0-1 to St Columcille's Carrickmore. The Carrickmore keeper denied the Kingsisland girls,pulling off two spectacular saves from thunderbolts shots from Katie and Sian. This was once again a very proud moment for the Kingsisland lasies when competing against much larger schools. Well done to all our girls. |

Helping Hands Project Primary 7 finished their Helping Hands project yesterday. The P7 pupils had been working with Sarah from the Women's Aid Charity since January. Pupils were learning about how to keep safe and knowing who to talk to when they feel upset. Pupils were taught that there is nothing too big or small that they could not talk about. As a special treat at the end of the project Sarah gave evryone certificates and their own Horrid Henry book. |

St Patrick's Celebrations P6 treated everyone to a special day of Irish themed celebrations last week. During their assembly Miss McAleer's class played the tin whistle, recited Limericks, sang Irish songs, danced and told the story of St Patrick. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations and much praise must go to Miss McAleer and her class.

World Book Day Last week we celebrated World Book Day. Children from all classes put on special performances to promote enjoyment of reading. P1 told us all about the Gruffalo. P2/3 concentrated on Julia Donaldson. P4/5 gave us clues and made us guess the books. P6 performed a book rap and performed the Wizard of Oz. P7 acted out some of Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes. Everyone enjoyed dressing up and watching the performances. Well done to everyone. |

International Food Day Everyone enjoyed a special treat last Friday during International Food Day. Pupils dressed up especially for the occasion and were treated to food from many different parts of the world. Children also decorated the dining hall with flags and art work. A big thank you goes to Paula and Claire, our hardworking cooks who serve up beautiful home cooked dinners every day of the year. |
Inspection Report We are delighted to report the results of our recent inspection. In the four areas inspected the results were as follows; Pastoral Care - OUTSTANDING Children's Standards - OUTSTANDING Teaching & Learning - OUTSTANDING Leadership & Management - OUTSTANDING We are delighted to recive the highest praise for the efforts of all of our pupils and staff. We also take this opportunity to thank our parents and Governors for their support and guidance. We will publish the final report as soon as it is made public by the Inspectorate. |

Enrolment for Sept 2013 Thank you to everyone who completed the application form for registration of children in September. To date we have 16 children registered for P1 in Kingsisland. This is an excellent number of children. WEe know they will all contribute greatly to our school. We look forward to seeing them and their parents join a thriving school community.

Girls Football The girls travelled to Clonoe on Thurs 14 March to compete in the ladies 5 aside indoor football. They played exceptionally well throughout the day and were unlucky to loose out by the odd goal in the semi-final. Miss O'Neill was very proud of all her girls. |

Boys Football Well done to the gallant boys football team. The boys defeated Stewartstown, Edendork, Laghey and Moy to qualify for the Cumann na mBunscoil Clonoe heat of the indorr boys 5 aside. The boys were unlucky to loose out to Primate Dixon in the final. Another great show by our P6 & 7 Boys. |

Camogie Blitz Well done to our camogie girls who qualified again for the Tyrone county final. The girls emerged victorious after some hard fought victories in the recent blitz held in Clonoe. The girls now go on to represent the school in Omagh. Kingsisland Abu. |

iPad's iPad’s arrived in school last week. The pupils are so excited and have been having a super time taking pictures and explaining the excellent opportunities for learning with them. P7 are preparing to make movies and P6’s are preparing green screen shots! What next in Kingsisland? |

Maths Problem Solving P7 were busy solving maths problems in school today. Pupils had to work together in groups, using all the knowledge they had of fractions and decimals to work out different ways of finding the various answers . Everyone enjoys learning through group work. |

New Play Park Our new play park is now finished to the delight of all children. Not even the constent rain on Thursday could keep the pupils off the new facility. Please feel free to come round to the playground to get a good look.

Christmas Dance Show The children finished off the year in style on Thursday with a magnificent Christmas themed Dance show. Each class performed their dance in front of the school. There were some dazzling dance moves on display. The show finished with the P6 girls performing a short play written, directed and performed by the girls. See Videos

Christmas Nativity The children performed their Christmas Nativity Reflection on Tuesday night in St Clomcille's church Kingsisland. Every child performed with distinction. Everyone enjoyed a cup of tea and some mince pies in school afterwards.

Christmas Dinner Everyone enjoyed a beautiful Christmas dinner today in school. The food was prepared and served by our caring and hard working kitchen staff. The pupils were busy all morning preparing their party hats especially for the occasion and really enjoyed the festive atmosphere

New Play Park Despite the bad weather work is well under way in the construction of the new play park. Hopefully by the end of the week the children will be able to make full use of this super facility.

P6 Cooking Following on from our literacy work learning about instruction text's, P6 enjoyed a day of cooking. They followed a recipie to make delicious white chocolate cookies They had to follow the instructions carefully to ensure their cookies were good enough to eat.

St Patricks Silver Jubillee Pupils in P5 and P6 recently visited Clonoe Church to view the many different parts of the beautiful building. Each pupil then drew their favourte part and Mrs Lowe put them all together on a beautiful stain glassed effect display.

Magic Man All pupils travelled to Craic Theatre last week to see international magic star "Ed Masters" in action. Ed entertained the children with some amazing tricks especially the levitating table.

Halloween There were some spooky ghouls and ghosts, vampires, witches and skeletons in Kingsisland today. Pupils had a wicked time performing their dance show. Everyone was then treated to some vampire blood and witches broth by our scary kitchen staff.

P2/3 Libary Visit Primary Two and Three had a very enjoyable visit to Coalisland Library. They were made very welcome by library staff and participated keenly in the story Jack and The Fluu Fluu By Julia Donaldson and read wonderfully by Cathy.

P6 Halloween P6 had fun today getting in the Halloween "Spirit" telling spooky stories and making chocolate apples. Their ghoulish stories definitely made it feel like Halloween!

P2/3 Autumn Walk Primary Two and Three participated excitedly in an Autumn walk. They viewed the Autumn colours, collected leaves and had great fun having a leaf shower. Later in class they used their collection of leaves to make a leaf print collage. |

Halloween Fancy Dress Party Our annual Halloween Fancy Dress Party will take place on Tuesday 30th October. We are using this year's "Dress Up Day" to raise funds for Duchenne Muscluar Dystrophy. We would kindly ask each pupil to bring in a donation of £1 each for this worthy cause. We hope to begin our show at approx 10AM. Parents are welcome to come along to see the short performance.

£2650 Raised We would like to express our apereciation to everyone who contributed in any way to our fundraising for Peatlands Picnic in the Park. The total amount raised was a whopping £2650. We have already purchased additional playtime/breaktime resources and we will hopefully have our new play facilty installed before Christmas. Everyone in St. John's would like to thank the parents and friends of Kingsisland for your generosity and continued support. |

Birds of Prey John from the Northern Ireland School of Falconry visited the school today to show the boys and girls some birds of prey. He brought along a selection of birds including a Buzzard, a Peregrine Falcon, a Barn owl and a Vulture. The children learned all about the birds and their features and got to see one of the birds flying around the playground. |

Picnic in Peatlands Park Our annual sponsored walk and picnic in Peatlands park was enjoyed by all the pupils and staff last Friday, 12th October. Everyone had a great day out completing various walks around the park. The day was made extra special once again by our great kitchen staff who transported lunch for everyone up to the park. And a special thank you to everyone who donated money so generously. We raised a huge £2650 which will go towards a new playpark for the pupils. We would like to thank all the parents for their continued support. |

Cooking in Primary 6 Today Primary 6 had great fun baking 'Rocky Yellow Brick Road' buns. They have been enjoying 'The Wizard of Oz' as their class novel this month and their challenge today was to guide the brainless Scarecrow back to Dorothy with their golden treats.

P1 Teeth Brushing P1 boys and girls have been working hard on keeping healthy and clean. They took their toothbrushes into school and brushed their teeth for a whole 2 minutes! It was a long time to brush their teeth but they had beautiful big smiles afterwards. |
A Young Visitor To P1! P1 children have been learning how to care for others and themselves. Baby Lara and her mummy Alicia visited our class and the children had an opportunity to help Alicia change and clean Lara. Her big sister Orna in P1 was very proud.
