100% Attendance Well done to Ryan, Rian, Katie, Laurna, Anton, Rihanna, Naoise and Cliodhna for 100% Attendance this year in Kingsisland. The pupils recived their certificates and special pens and pencils for their efforts. They are a great example to everyone at St Johns.

Eco Garden The vegtables in our Eco Garden are thriving. We have been feasting on lettuce and radish for nearly three weeks now. The carrots are also beginning to come. Please feel free to come in during the summer holidays and help yourselves to any vegtables that are ready to be harvested. We see the Eco garden as a communal garden that serves all of the school community.

Cumman na mBunsciol Runners Up Well done to our school football team for coming runners up in the Tyrone Cumman na mBunscoil cup. With an entry of 26 schools the boys and girls represented the school with distinction, narrowly loosing out to Plumbridge by a single point in the final. Parents' Quiz A parents support quiz was held last friday night in Derrytresk club in aid of school funds. An excellent night was had by all in attendance. There was a great turnout and a total of £571 was raised. The money will go towards the new outdoor play area that is planned for next year. Many thanks to all who contributed in any way and to all who sponsored the many prizes. |

Pupils meet Celtic Captain During the recent Scotland trip Kingsisland pupils had the thrill of a tour of Celtic 's Stadium. During the tour the pupils got quite a surprise when they met Celtic Captain Scott Brown. Scot had great time for the awestruck pupils. He talked to the children, answered questions and posed for photographs. He also very generously donated his football boots to the pupils.

Scotland trip P6 and P7 pupils had a fantastic trip to Scotland. The pupils and teachers were blessed with beautiful weather throughout. They visted Dynamic Earth, Camera Obscura, The Dungeons, M&Ds Theme Park, Celtic Park and went on a ghost walk to the underground vaults in Edinburgh. The pupils have some brillant memories that will last a long time.

Sports Day There was a great turnout of parents, grandparents, past pupils and friends of the school on Friday at our anuual fun day. The weather was perfect as the sun shone brightly all day over Kingsisland. Everyone had a great time competing in the events. Overall winners on the day were Ryan in P1 and Cassie in P3. Well done to everyone.

New Art Mural Some of our Primary 6 and 7 pupils have been busy painting a beautiful new art mural on the outside wall of the art room. The Train Theme has lots of mathematical topics included if you look very closely. Well done to everybody involved. It has really brightened up the front of the school.

Kingsisland Oscars! A special ‘Night at the Oscars’ was held in Kingsisland Primary School to celebrate the finale of a wonderful Digital Media Project that Primary 7 pupils have been involved in over this past 6 months Everyone had a super evening as they paraded on their very own exclusive Red Carpet and ate their specially cooked Pop Corn. To top off such a memorable evening each Primary 7 pupil was presented with their very own personally engraved Oscar. |

Spanish Ola! Don’t be too surprised to be met with Spanish words as you walk through Kingsisland. Under the expert tutoring of Senorita Sarah, the boys and girls of Kingsisland are becoming fluent in the worlds second commonly spoken languages.

Titanic Fever!! Some of our Primary 1 and 2 pupils have been by Titanic fever. They have been making lots of replica boats and drawing pictures of the famous ship. And all in their spare time! Well done boys and girls.

Cumann Na Bunscoil Last Monday our school hosted the Cumann Na Bunscoil heat of the Tyrone GAA primary school tournament. Over 150 children from Laghey PS, Aughamullan PS, Carland PS, Caledon PS and Kingsisland PS played some brilliant football down in Derrytresk GFC. Every child took part in a festival of Gaelic Football. In the end Kingsisland won the cup and now go forward to play in the county finals in Pomeroy. |

Communion 2012 Preparations are well underway for First Holy Communion on Saturday at 11am. Mrs Quinn's class can be seen, busy rehearsing in the chapel. Miss McAleer has the choir in tip top shape. Mrs Lowe has been busy decorating the Chapel. While everyone else is getting the scones and biscuits ready for tea in the school afterwards. Please feel free to bring friends and family over to the school after Communion for some light refreshments. |

Brilliant Bun Sale!!! The bun sale organised by the School Council was a tremendous success on Friday past. The council were overwhelmed by the donations of buns, cakes and treats from parents. The council did a brilliant job and raised alot of money (which will be spent on additional playground equipment). The Council want to thank everyone for their generous contributions and to anyone who was able to come in and purchase the goodies. See More Pics.

Naoimh Columcille Winners Well done to the boys and girls from P5/6/7 who won the annual Naoimh Columcille hurling/camogie tournament. The team won all their matches defeating Stewartstown, Aughamullan, Brocagh, GaelScoil and Primate Dixon to lift the cup. There was some excellent displays but special mention must go to Odhran Hughes for some outstanding running power and scores. Well done everybody!!!!! |

Wild About Water Primary 5, 6 and 7 had a fantastic day today learning about water habitats in Parkanaur Forest. They had an action packed day getting right into the river, measuring the width and depth of the river and fishing for the fresh water creatures. They searched for pondlife and got up close and personal with a few wriggly Newts, Water- boatmen and froglets. |

The Gruffalo Primary 1 and 2 had a most enjoyable and exciting day on their Gruffalo search in Parkanaur Forest Park. After participating in The Gruffalo story and accompanying games the turned into a proper and exciting adventure for children as they began map reading and detective work throughout the forest finishing with an eagerly awaited visit to The Gruffalo's House. |
Hollywood Beware!!!!!!!!!! Primary 7 pupils completed their Digital Media Project on Friday Past. Each member of the P7 class scripted, storyboarded, acted and edited in their very own film based on the theme of the Famine. This was the most exciting ICT project taken on in kingsisland. We are in the Process of arranging A night for all Parents to come and see the Premeirs. |

Fundraising Presentation We recently had a wear your GAA colours day in school with each pupil making a small contrubition on the day in aid of the Neo-Natal Unit in Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. The money was raised in memory of little Conor Canavan (cousin of pupil Ryan in P1) . Little Conors Father, Paul and aunt Fiona Coney came into school to talk to the childern and thank everyone for their kind donation.

Eco Garden With the lovely spring weather pupils have finally started planting vegtables and fruit in the new Eco Garden. P1 and 2 planted peas. P3 and 4 planted carrots, parsley and runner beans. P5 planted Radish and lettuce. P6 planted Broccoli and leeks. P7 planted potatoes and onions. We will be working hard in the Eco Garden over the next few months,hoping that our vegtables grow well. Disability Sports NI Pupils were very lucky today to have a visit from Davy and Johnny from Disability Sports NI. The children learned about world class athletes who have competed in the Paralympic games and had the opportunity to participate in five sport challenges, each based on a Paralympic sport.

Teambuilding in Parkanaur On Friday 2nd March, Primary 5, 6 and 7 went to Parkanaur Forest for an action packed day of teambuilding activities. They had to find their way through the forest, using their orienteering skills to find symbols and collect points. This was followed by tower building, human bingo and blind man's buff. A very enjoyable day was had by everyone, with a big thank you to the Speedwell staff at Parkanaur for a great day of fun. |

Confirmation Well done to all of our Primary 7 boys and girls who were confirmed yesterday, Sunday 26 Feb in St Patricks Church Clonoe. Cardinal Brady, was was assisted by the three priests of Clonoe Parish, Father Fee, Father McCallion and Father McKeowne. A special word of thanks must go to the beautiful chior and to everyone who helped prepare them. |

Pancake Tuesday Paula showed everyone today how to whip up some delicious pancakes, while the Primary 5&6 class had a pancake flipping competition to see who could get their pancake the highest..with one or two even hitting the roof!

Dairy Council Visit The Primary 5, 6 & 7 classes had a visit today from Sarah and Rachel from the Northern Ireland Dairy Council. They talked about the importance of healthy eating and all the things needed to ensure we have a balanced, healthy lifestyle. The children learned about the five different food groups and the foods that belong in each. |

Boy's Hurling Tournament On the 25thof January the boys went to loughview sports centre to play in a hurling tournament. There were lots of teams taking part, Primate Dixon, Edendork, Dungannon and Maghery. We lost our first match but won our second, drew our third and won our 4th and 5th. The matches were very hard but we qualified in the end and next Thursday we will be going up to Omagh and playing

Derrytresk Ulster Champions!!!!!! Congratulations from everyone at Kingsisland to Derrytresk on their brilliant victory in the Athletic Grounds on Sunday. The team showed all the characteristics of true champions. The atmosphere in school has been buzzing all week and now the celebrations can really commence. We look forward to the boys bringing the Paul Kerr Ulster Junior Cup in to school. Cmon the Hill !!!!!!!!! |
St Joseph's Basketball Tournament We went to St Joesph's College, Coalisland on Friday 25th November for a basketball tournament. There were mixed teams from lots of different schools. All teams were named after the different counties of Ireland. The best person from each school got to take home a St Josephs jersey. The teachers were very kind to us and for break we got hot dogs and juice. Everybody got a game even though there was subs. We really had a brilliant day out. St Joseph's is a cool school. Bird Watching in Parkanaur Forest Primary 1,2,3 and 4 pupils participated in a very exciting trip to Parkanaur Forest.The children were provided with bionculars for a walk through the forest, where they had great fun bird watching.On return to the Parkanaur classroom the children made excellent fridge magnets and bird feeders which we hope to use to attract further birds to our school grounds. |

Thank you Angeline Last friday we had a special leaving assembly for our cook Angeline. Angeline has moved to St Joseph's College to work as a classroom assisstant, a job she has been training to do for this last two years. Every pupil played their part in remembering Angeline's time in Kingsisland. But a special mention must go to Miss McAleer's class for their rendition of 'Angeline' to the tune of 'Valerie'. |

New Play Equipment We have recently received lots of new exciting play equipment in to school. We have new sports equipment along with some new trikes. We have used some of the funds from the recent Picnic in Peatlands Park to help keep our pupils busy and engaged during their break times. We wish to thank everyone who contributed in any way. |

Halloween Dance Party 2011 Everyone dressed up for the annual Halloween Fanct Dress day today. We had some very scary vampires, monsters, pirates and zombies aswell as some very cute little Toy Story Characters, Popstars like Janet Devlin, Jedward and Lady Gaga. All classes performed their dance routines to Halloween themed music

The Cup comes to Kingsisland Following the brilliant victory of Derrytresk GFC in winning the Junior Football Championship the players and managers brought the cup into school last Friday.Pupils asked some difficult questions to Ronan, Niall, Joe, Paul, Conor and Aidan. After taking some photos the pupils had a great time playing football with the boys in the yard. |

Well Done Derrytresk Well done to the boys from the Hill who won the Tyrone Junior Championship on Sunday. Many of the team and management learned their early GAA skills in the yard and field in Kingsisland Primary School. We are all so proud of them and their achievement. We have no doubt that their fantastic victory can only inspire our young players to go on and emulate their heroes for many years to come. Go the Hill !!!!!!!!! |

New Spanish Teacher Our new Spanish teacher for this year is Maria. She replaces Theresa Mendiguren who taught all of the pupils from Kingsisland for the past three years. We say a big thank you to Theresa and a big welcome to Maria.

Irish Language Classes We extend a warm welcome to St John's this year to Shauna Woods. Shauna will be teaching the Key Stage 2 classes Irish throughout this academic year in a fun, relaxed and interactive style.P1 - 7l children already receive Weekly Spanish Lessons. Learning Irish will further encourage language development in Kingsisland.

Sponsored Picnic in Peatlands Friday last saw all pupils head for the annual school fundraising walk and picnic in Peatlands Park. The weather was very kind to us and the magnificent sum of £2000 was raised. Well done everybody!

My First Day at School There wasn't a tear in sight as our 16 new Primary 1 pupils started school in St John's today. The boys and girls looked splendid in their new school uniforms and carrying their shiny new school bags. A super first morning was had by all. |
